In addition to helping youth prepare for careers, RiseBoro also offers programs to help employ youth to in order to gain valuable, hands-on employment experience.

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)

Funded by the NYC Department of Youth Community Development

This program provides valuable work experience and project-based activities for NYC youth who are seeking a summer program that will help enhance their job skills and connect them with career exploration opportunities. Participants have the opportunity to explore their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills and engage in learning experiences that help in developing their social, civic and leadership skills. By participating in structured project and work-based opportunities, NYC youth are better prepared for careers of the future.

YOUNGER YOUTH AGES (14 – 15)

This program provides youth with project-based learning experiences that closely match their interests. Youth earn weekly stipends for program participation. Project based Learning is supplemented with counseling, health education, higher education exploration, career exploration, work-readiness trainings and technology.

OLDER YOUTH AGES (16-21)

This program provides the opportunity for structured and supervised work experience while earning a paycheck. On-the-job learning is supplemented with counseling, work readiness, higher education, health education, career exploration and labor market orientation.

SYEP Career READY

Funded by the NYC Department of Youth Community Development

The program provides students who attend the Academy of Urban Planning and Engineering the opportunity to explore their interests and potential career pathways while developing workplace skills. By participating in structured project and work-based opportunities, youth are better prepared for careers in the future. All youth receive weekly payment. Younger Youth (ages 14 – 15) will receive pay based on their participation in project activities. Older Youth (ages 16 – 21) will receive pay based from their work experience.

SYEP Career Ready applications will only be made accessible to selected students who meet the program criteria and who have been nominated by the school Principal.

Works Plus-Youth Workforce Program

Through the Department of Probation, RiseBoro offers the Works Plus program to Bed-Stuy youth, which aims to connect local youth with meaningful workforce and educational opportunities to advance their career prospects and enhance their economic well-being. To participate, you must be between 16-24 years old, and you must live in the 81st Precinct.
