NEW YORK CONGRESSIONAL LEADERSHIP SECURES $5 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR RISEBORO’S AFFORDABLE HOUSING PRESERVATION EFFORTS

FY26 Appropriations Will Support Critical Capital Improvements, Long-Term Affordability Across RiseBoro’s Portfolio

NEW YORK (February 9, 2026) – RiseBoro Community Partnership, New York City’s leading affordable housing developer and social services provider, today announced that it has secured $5 million in federal funding through the FY26 appropriations bill, thanks to the advocacy and leadership of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Chuck Schumer. The funding will address critical maintenance needs and preserve long-term affordability across RiseBoro’s portfolio of affordable housing serving families, seniors, and formerly homeless New Yorkers. The federal support comes as rising insurance premiums and operating expenses put unprecedented pressure on nonprofit housing providers. The investment will enable major repairs and system upgrades in buildings that are decades old.

“RiseBoro thanks the New York congressional delegation for securing key federal support for affordable housing,” said Kieran Harrington, CEO of RiseBoro Community Partnership. “The $5 million allocated to RiseBoro Community Partnership in this FY26 appropriations bill will directly address maintenance needs and preserve long-term affordability across our housing portfolio. At a time when rising operating and insurance costs are putting real pressure on nonprofit housing providers, this investment is critical to keeping New Yorkers stably housed. We are grateful to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Sen. Chuck Schumer, and the entire New York delegation for their leadership and relentless advocacy for affordable housing.”

“RiseBoro Community Partnership provides affordable housing and comprehensive services to families, seniors, veterans, and many other New Yorkers in need,” said Senator Gillibrand, ranking member of the Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee. “I’m proud to have secured $5 million in federal funding that will directly support critical capital improvements, maintenance work, and sustainability upgrades at 13 of RiseBoro’s buildings in Bushwick, and I’m committed to fighting for more federal resources to preserve and build affordable housing for New Yorkers of all ages.”

“I’m proud to deliver this $5 million federal investment for the rehabilitation of affordable housing in Brooklyn,” said Senator Schumer. “This project will improve living conditions for residents, provide jobs, and prevent the need for capital work in the future. I won’t stop fighting to deliver the resources needed to better our communities and to support incredible organizations, like RiseBoro Community Partnership, that help them flourish.”

The $5 million investment will help fund:

  • Capital improvements and moderate rehabilitation in aging affordable housing buildings, many originally constructed in the 1930s
  • Preservation work in deeply affordable apartments serving families, seniors, and formerly homeless New Yorkers
  • Electrification and sustainability upgrades to reduce long-term operating costs and extend building lifespan
  • Repairs and system upgrades, including windows, roofs, plumbing, HVAC, boilers, and building envelopes
  • Safety and quality-of-life improvements such as security cameras, intercom and access systems, and common area upgrades
  • Building infrastructure improvements, including insulation, internet connectivity, and structural reinforcements
