Sandhya Boyd

General Counsel

Sandhya Boyd is the General Counsel of RiseBoro.  She leads the Legal/Risk Management team, which supports every division at RiseBoro.  She is the first General Counsel of RiseBoro, holding the position since 2019.

Sandhya spent nearly twenty years as a poverty lawyer, advocating for the rights of low-income New Yorkers through Legal Services NYC affiliates in three boroughs, primarily representing tenants facing eviction and seeking better housing conditions.

In 2006, she founded Brooklyn Jubilee, a nonprofit which provided legal services and other resources to hundreds of low-income New Yorkers on site at soup kitchens and food pantries. Immediately after Hurricane Sandy, Brooklyn Jubilee began advocating for impacted New Yorkers in shelters and emergency food sites.  Brooklyn Jubilee soon opened a trailer in Coney Island providing free legal services six days each week to hundreds of survivors, and putting nearly a quarter of a million dollars back into the community through zealous advocacy on insurance claims, FEMA funds, public benefits and housing issues.

Sandhya spent two years as the Director of Grants and Contracts at Legal Services NYC where she oversaw contract performance management, and worked closely with the finance department to integrate both programmatic and fiscal concerns into operations and policy.

The depth of her experience in program services greatly informs her approach to advising RiseBoro staff, keeping client needs always as the highest priority.

She is a graduate of George Washington University, and George Washington University Law School. She lives in Brooklyn with her family, three cats and her Vespa.
